When we think of digestive issues we often think of the worst ones like irritable bowel, Crohn’s, and celiac. However, even the more subtle symptoms like reflux, gas, and bloating are signs that your digestion is compromised. No matter the case, all digestive symptoms are abnormal and should be addressed to restore optimal health.
Leaky Gut
A common underlying problem of any digestive issue is what’s known as “leaky gut” or intestinal permeability. This means your intestinal barrier has broken down and is no longer able to keep toxins and pathogens out of the blood stream. Inflammatory foods such as gluten, dairy, and sugar coupled with a weak immune system are but a few contributing factors to leaky gut.
Other conditions such as SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), fungal, candida, yeast, parasitic infections, constipation, diarrhea, and food allergies are all contributors to leaky gut. Stool testing may be necessary in order to pinpoint the root of the issue followed by specific diet, supplement, and lifestyle advice. Health and healing starts in the gut!
